Michael Vick Commanded the Most Hype All Summer
We have to say goodbye to the summer, now. Most people already have, but here at Juiced Sports Blog, we were holding on until the end of the baseball season. That’s how desperate we were. But, now it’s gone. And what a summer it was. Barry Bonds, Michael Vick, Tim Donaghy… We decided to investigate what stories have commanded the most attention this summer and early fall. To no one’s surprise, Michael Vick won easily. We’ve got some graphs and stuff to show you.

Michael Vick
On July 7, dogfighting charges were first being reported. Michael Vick was indicted on July 17. It was reported that Vick would plead guilty on August 21. Once the case began to die down, so did the hype, but then he failed a drug test this week, which is probably why they hype rose a little bit.
The red line is supposed to represent sentiment or favorability toward the subject. I guess it is measured over a short time span due to the volatility of it. Still, over the long term, Vick’s popularity went down as expected. Interestingly, he already had less than 40% of the references of him a favorable.
Barry Bonds

After breaking the record on August 8, there was still some buzz about Bonds for a few days, but it quickly died down. Good riddance.
Marc Ecko

Marc Ecko, however, has been able to get publicity from his online poll about the homerun ball.
O.J. Simpson

Nicole Brown Simpson

Most of the activity on Nicole Brown Simpson’s graph prior to O.J. Simpson’s arrest is due to O.J.’s book. On July 31, the Goldmans were awarded the rights to publish it, and on August 16, the Browns called for a boycott.
Bill Belichick

Cheating sure helps your publicity…

Which players have been commanding the most attention over the last 3 years?
Alex Rodriguez vs. Barry Bonds
(Yellow, orange, and red=Bonds.)
Barry Bonds seems to have Alex Rodriguez beat.
Terrell Owens vs. Peyton Manning
(Red=T.O.)

In a close contest, Terrell Owens looks to have Peyton Manning beaten out. Just goes to show you that people are intrigued by crass more than class.
LeBron James vs. Dwayne Wade
(Red=Wade)

Dwyane Wade got to the Finals first, so Dwyane Wade got an early lead. However with LeBron making the Finals last year and hosting the ESPY’s and SNL, it looks like he will quickly catch up.
