October Rox! Fox and MLB Decide on Sox

Scott Jacobs

Phew! Fox is Saved by Sox!

Hey guys! College has been crazy, but I found time out of my busy schedule to keep close tabs on a wild baseball post-season. Forget the fact that the Yanks nearly got swept, the Mets failed to make it in at all, and the Rockies got in on a play too close to even tell, how about this: Fox is saved!

Just imagine an Indians-Rockies series or Indians-D’backs clash. Would that have been the worst rated programming in history? Honestly, how big of a bullet did Fox dodge? Instead of getting the fun and spunky, but relatively unknown Indians, they reel in the big fish Red Sox, and with it, the guaranteed must tv viewing eye of Red Sox nation.

Indians- D’backs? Forget it. It would have been the least star-powered series in the history of sports. But Fox, you can breathe now, because Boston’s comeback from 3-1 just made this World Series must see TV for half the country.

Rox-Sox is not only David versus Goliath (so typical that I go with that reference), but it’s got a fun name Rocktober versus Soxtober? The upstart, wildly uncontrollably red hot Rockies who have won 21 of 22 versus the Sox, who upended the Indians in another wild ALCS involving Boston, to set up a classic little guy versus mega power matchup.

Fox execs were probably prepared to start jumping out of buildings if the Indians had won. Let’s face it, even with Cleveland’s lack of a World title since 1948, compared to Boston’s 3 year drought (funny how that sounds), there was no chance the average joe was going to be sucked in. When Cleveland took on upstart Florida in 1997, a series many claim “never happened”, something which is really sad, considering that it is probably the most overlooked entertaining World Series that no one cared enough about, it set the standard for pray big, aim high for TV execs.

So Fox pulled a rabbit out their hat and they get the Rox-Sox matchup they probably dreamed of when the LCS started. Congrats. You would have lost your shirts otherwise.
