Game of Shadows Will Be Movie
Well, Game of Shadows, the book that exposed Barry Bonds as a steroid-user, is now going to be made into an HBO movie. This is just what I need. After watching Bonds in baseball games for the past decade, then on ESPN for half of this year as he was chasing the home run record, then again on ESPN all this week as he was indicted, I was devasted when he announced that he was going to boycott the Hall of Fame inductions.

There’s just not enough information out about Bonds now. I mean, sure he’s got his own network (ESPN), but there can only be one person talking a time on a single television channel. (Sometimes they bring Stephen A. Smith on, but I can’t understand what he’s saying.) Also, ESPN shows basketball for a few hours every night, so where do I get Barry Bonds info then? I might miss an important development on his steroid use.
I have already read (and reread) all of Lance Williams and Mark Fainaru-Wada pieces on Bonds’ steroid use. Then when I heard they were going to make a book that was basically boiled down to all the articles they had reported on Bonds put together into book format, I was ecstatic. But, I got through that too quick and there were only 1,864 other books listed in Amazon’s database on Barry Bonds.

HBO executives were frustrated to learn that the Onion already own copyright for the name “No Shit” and this design.
Love Me, Hate Me: Barry Bonds brought up the sad possibility that some people might actually hate Barry Bonds. Imagine! How cruel society is today…
My only regret is that this movie isn’t being made by ESPN. They make the best sports movies: 3, Hustle, and Ruffian, for example. They also had that great series Bonds on Bonds.
Now most people don’t like ESPN’s original entertainment–see the Internet Movie Database ratings of their movies below–but I believe there is still a place in society for contrived, overhyped TV movies that repeat stories we’ve already heard without adding anything.

(Internet Movie Database ratings
Hustle-on Pete Rose, 4.1/10, featured review: “a piece of junk. If Tom Sizemore ever turns in a worse performance he should quit acting and take up ballet. This film was horribly written, terribly directed. … I wish I could provide viewers of this film with some sort of reparations.“
Ruffian-horse racing, 5.9, “smells like horse manure…“
3-Dale Earnhardt, 6.8, “Inaccurate, lame, few good parts…“)
Maybe I’m just a traditionalist that way, but I like this stuff, and I can’t wait for the Barry Bonds movie.
