Monday Night Malady
ESPN Can’t Even Make the Dolphins Seem Good…
Some how the Miami Dolphins earned themselves a Monday Night Football appearance… I don’t know what it was. Maybe it was their 6-10 record last season. Maybe it was the fact that they signed a big name quarterback, Trent Green, who, after sitting out half the season, still leads the team in passing yardage. Needless to say, tonights matchup between the 7-3 Steelers and the 0-10 Dolphins isn’t going to be much of a game. …Unless you believe the crap they’ve been saying on ESPN’s Monday Night Football commercials. So, in 2004, the Dolphins also conned their way into a Monday Night Football appearance. Only that year they actually deserved it. They were coming off a winning season before Ricky Williams left. But, then Ricky left, and the season fell apart. So, now, ESPN’s executives see Miami-Pittsburgh on their Monday Night schedule and think, “Damn, why the hell did we schedule that?” But, Dolphins? Cleo Lemon? Ronnie Brown, their number two receiver? They can’t even pretend to make the Dolphins seem good. So they go with that stupid commercial about how you were watching the Dolphins-Pats game three years ago in your college dorm, and that one obnoxious Pats fan made that bet where if the Pats lost he would have to have the Dolphins logo tatooed onto his arm, and as the Fins began their comeback, you gave him the option of opting out, but he still had faith in the Pats, then when the Fins finally did when, he actually went throught with it! Wow. I think I’m just going to go to bed early.

They ended up 4-12 that season, but they did pull off a comeback upset over the defending champ New England Patriots. Brady played positively un-Bradylike, throwing interceptions in key situations, including one as he was being sacked in the fourth quarter.
Usually, they can find a way to hype up a terrible matchup. Bengals playing? Mention Chad Johnson. Ravens? Ray Lewis. Rams? Steven Jackson.
