NFL Week 12: What We’ve Learned
NFC Wildcard picture is a joke; Can the Pats be beaten? And other questions that will probably be asked on Around the Horn
What a weekend. What a week of football. Lucky for us, unlike college football, we get a pro football playoff in January. The way this season has gone… that should be fun! Let’s do this thing. New England is vulnerable! The Cardinals are Cursed! Eli: Karma sucks! Cleveland is a rocking! Quick thoughts: Dallas-Green Bay won’t be on your TV. Unless you have the NFL Network. And neither will New England’s last game of the year against the Giants. Unless you have the NFL Network. Moral to the story: there is none. Thanks a lot NFL for giving us a station no one can watch. Herman Edwards is a hero right now if that play works on 4th down. Kickers can’t be trusted. Just look at Neil Rackers and his inability to make a 32 yarder as the perfect example. Ravens-Chargers was one of the premier games last year. Yesterday, it was just a sidenote to how fast the Ravens have fallen. Would Colt Brennan look good in purple? How about Matt Ryan? Tampa keeps winning, and at 7-4 they’re looking pretty legit. The 5-6 Eagles probably would like Jeff Garcia back. St. Louis completely wilted to the Seahawks, and that 4th and goal play, was a nightmare that never had a chance. The Seabags without Shaun Alexander are still pretty good. That, and the Rams are pretty, uh, … bad. 6 teams are in the running for the NFC’s final playoff spot, led currently by Detroit. In unrelated news, Missouri and West Virginia are closing in on eligibility to take their spots. Arizona-Cleveland is a big game for both teams in terms of playoff hopes. Is that possible? Browns-Cardinals? An important game? I guess hell really has frozen over. BTW: Better chances of Pittsburgh carting out Terry Bradshaw then Ricky Williams going for a 100 yards on the ground tonight. How thin is Miami at the position? Williams, who hasn’t played in like 2 years is starting! Starting. Sean Taylor… I’m not quite sure of the details… But my thoughts are with you and your family.

C’mon people! Did you really think the Patriots wouldn’t have a bit of a hiccup here and there? It was inevitable. I just didn’t think it would come against former Dolphins great A.J. Feeley and the B(Eagles)… but here’s the key: even with a mediocre game against a game Eagles squad, the Pats still won. They scored more points. They’re 11-0 and 5 games from perfection. Hold the bubbly Miami, Baltimore should be no contest after this wake up call.
With all the early games done, and a golden opportunity to jump into the NFC’s sixth seed outright, Arizona did what Arizona always does: they lost to the San Fran. 49ers. The previously 2-8 49ers! Arizona could’ve been 7-4 if they figured out how to beat the lowly 9ers in games they SHOULD have won, but being the Cardinals, and being unable to avoid a delay of game on a field goal, and being unable to stop the pitiful San Fran O, and being unable to manage the clock, Arizona blew it again. And another part of me died inside.
The Giants are 7-4, but after another baffling effort from Eli Manning it’s safe to say they’re no threat at all. Eli took this upon himself refusing to go to the Chargers in the draft a few years ago, and karma has attacked him ever since. The Giants will still probably make the playoffs by default, but expect another quick exit from Eli the Mediocre.
First the Cavs. Then the Indians (so close too…), and now the Browns? Maybe the Cleveland Barons will come out of nowhere to take the ice again in the NHL. And Ohio State is in the national title game if either West Virginia or Missouri lose. Who’s to say that one of those teams won’t lose? As for the Browns, they’re good. Very good. Amazing too. Haven’t heard anything about Brady Quinn in months. O right, it’s that guy Derek Anderson. Yeah, he’s pretty good. The Dog Pound: you’ve got yourselves a pretty good team. Can you say Cleveland-Pittsburgh in the first round of the playoffs? Now that would be fun for a third time.
