The Everchaning BCS Standings
If The Big 12 Doesn’t Get a Team In…
Who do you send to the National Championship when no team is a National Champion? After another highly ranked BCS team has been upset (Oregon lost to Arizona last night) that question is one gripping the minds of all college football fans right now. Quite likely, the answer will emerge from the Big 12. In fact, if the Big 12 doesn’t get a team in, they should disolve the conference. Heres is how the BCS Standings stood after last week: Team-Big Games Left Notice that Big 12 teams occupy spots #3-5? The Big 12 is going to be very important in deciding the outcome. With Big 12 teams ranked in spots 3-5, and all of them set to play each other in the coming days, they will probably, likely, if they don’t, they should quit determine the #2 team. So, what does the Big 12 have to do to not have a team in the National Championship? First, Kansas, the lone undefeated in the continental United States (Hawaii is, too), plays Missouri in the last game of the season, two weeks from now. The winner goes on to the Big 12 Championship, likely against Oklahoma. Oklahoma is one game ahead of Texas now and holds the tiebreaker. If Oklahmoa wins the Big 12 after winning out, they’re in. So, Oklahoma must lose at Texas Tech this week or vs Oklahoma State next then win the Big 12 championship. In losing the Big 12 championship, whoever came unscathed out of the Kansas-Missouri matchup would then fall from #2. However, if Oklahoma wins the Big 12 championship, they still might not make it. That is, if they lose to Texas Tech and Oklahoma State. But, if they did that, they probably wouldn’t make the Big 12 championship at all. Texas (#13) would make it, and a Texas win wouldn’t be enough to put Texas in the national championship. Of course, the Big 12 North might win the championship… But, if Missouri loses to Kansas State, in what ESPN has dubbed a “classic trap game,” then beats Missouri, that shatters their title hopes. Kansas might get trapped against Iowa State… If any of that happens, we might have a sad Big 12.
