O-H-I-O Ove-rated, over-rated, over-rated!

Buck the trend, stop putting The Ohio State University in the BCS Championship game.

BY SCOTT JACOBS

Another college football season is in the books. A thrilling regular season in which we saw a plethora of upsets and stunners has been capped by, yawn, a snoozer of a post-season. Not that we would ever confuse one p word with that other, “playoffs.”

“Playoffs? We’re talking about playoffs? I just want to win a game,” Jim Mora Sr. once said in a famous press conference.

Playoffs? Nah, not in college football, where the tournament of roses, Pac 10, and Big 10 hold all the cards. And as for winning that “game,” the game, the case for Ohio State, it ain’t happening. Again. Back to back years, the Bucks have been beaten. Make that beaten down. Scratch that, pulvarized. Eaten alive. Shown up on the Fox network.

BCS on Fox? Why not change it to “Ohio State not winning a national championship game it never deserved to be in two years in a row.” Let’s see…. OSNWANCGINDTBITYIAR. Eh, that’s not so long. Not nearly as long as watching the unbearable OSU deflate a once exciting championship game.

In a year where Ohio State had one loss (that loss came to the Illinois Fighting Illini), it’s only fitting that the team they lost to, got destroyed by arguably the bigger, faster, stronger USC Trojans. And Hawaii? Absolutley humiliated on Fox by Georgia.

O that’s why we should have a plus-one or something at least like it. So that Ohio State gets taken out by Georgia, and USC versus LSU. With applogies to Kansas, and Missouri, that final four is generous to Ohio State, who will likely have to start scheduling Florida, Oklahoma, USC, and LSU on a annual basis if they expect people to buy their tissue soft schedule.

Because after laying an egg two BCS Championship games in a row, the BCS can’t possibly be stupid enough to push Ohio State in for a third year next year. O wait a minute. BCS and stupid. They seem to go hand in hand.

  1. Yup, Ohio is certainly over rated! I would’ve rather watched American Gladiators on NBC… lol

  3. Ohio State lost 1 game. All other teams lost more. Everyone “knew” going in that LSU would kick their ass, no surprise. Who the hell deserved to go? Hawaii, who got knocked up by Georgia? Oklahoma, who can’t handle Kansas State?

  4. Yep, Ohio State got pulvarized two years in a row, but in their defense, no one was very good this year.

With all the mistakes Ohio State has made in the last two BCS games, statistics show they do win more games than any other team.

Ohio State lost one game. Everyone else lost more. And LSU didn’t exactly kick their butts. Sure, they beat them, but it wasn’t a blowout like the Hawaii/Georgia game.

OSU doesn’t deserve to be the number one team, but neither does LSU. Both teams got to the BCS by default. But Ohio State is still the winningest team in college football.

Did they fumble (literally and figuratively)? Sure. Are they overrated. No.

  5. I think they are over-rated in the sense that they play a soft non-conference schedule (though they do play USC next year), the Big 10 is really down right now, and thus their statistics and records recently are deceiving.

Now granted, there were a lot of teams that fumbled away their chances to go to the title game this year (USF, BC, Oregon, etc.), but Ohio State got into the title game because they plain and simply ran out of games.

  6. They played Texas two straight years then had no one this year. A lot of other contenders played no one in nonconference. And it’s not their fault that the Big 10 was weak. They looked good enough in the regular season, winning most of their games by wide margins, to merit going to the title game with their record as it was. Also, OSU didn’t have a bye week like some teams, so that’s part of the reason they had two weeks off at the end of the season.

  7. Also, the Big 10 doesn’t have a championship game (say what you want about Michigan-OSU), and that is an unfair advantage. They have one less game to play then the likes of SEC teams, Big 12, and ACC, not to mention that the Pac10 also has that advantage in addition to the Big East.

  8. I have been a fan of Ohio State for many years. But unfortunately Tres. has been unable to get them up for the championship game x 2 yrs.Motivation is a fickeled commodity.Plainly said they need “PUMPED UP”!
