Clemens: “I Didn’t Take Flaxseed Oil; I Took Lidocaine.”
On his 60 Minutes tonight, January 6, Clemens was interviewed on his steroid use. Apparently, he never took steroids. No, he took B-12 and lydocaine.
Clemens said that trainer Brian McNamee injected him in the buttocks with lydocaine to ease joint pain. Interesting, because lydocaine is injected as a dental anesthetic, and in minor surgery. [Sources: Chicago Tribune, Wikipedia]
Yes, Clemens made a convuluted claim and he also appeared guilty whenever Mike Wallace was asking questions. Sorry I didn’t violate copyright law to record it, but I’ll describe his demeanor.
He was looking down, gulping, and nodding slowly as Wallace read off allegations. He repeated a few lines and didn’t go in detail with responses. His typical denial was to repeat “Never happened,” two or three times.
A few interesting exchanges:
Wallace mentions that McNamee was given immunity by the feds if he were to answer their questions honestly and completely. Wallace asks why McNamee would lie under those circumstances.
Wallace: “What does he have to gain?”
Clemens: “Not going to jail.”
Wallace: “What would he be going to jail for?”
Clemens: “Well, according to this, I think he’s been buying and moving steroids.”
He said it so matter-of-factly, but with a hint of *fake* surprise in his voice.
Clemens also said he would probably retire, but we all know what that means.
Finally, Clemens mentioned, “The higher you get on the flagpole, the more your butt shoes,” refering to how many people are trying to take him down.
Or more accurately, how easy it was for McNamee to inject stuff into his butt.

Good Post…fact is these guys always seem to come out with this story that they had no idea what was being injected into them. I don’t care if it is steroids, vitamins, or something to ease joint pain…why would you not ask what are you putting into me. Now he is going to try and make himself to be the victim and say how his career is tainted….you ruined your career the second you took steroids.
I was amused by his “I would have a third ear growing out of my forehead and be able to pull tractor trailers with my teeth (had he taken steroids)” comment. True, but he would have also been able to prolong his career well into his 40s and damn near destroy Mike Wallace in a fit of ‘roid rage while being interviewed on national TV.
