Isiah Disses Bobby Knight
MITCHELL BLATT
Isiah Thomas played under Bobby Knight as Indiana, including the year he won a title in 1981. You would think he’d have nice things to say following Knight’s retirement. No.
Thomas said:
The man and the person that I am, I don’t think I would be this way had he not been my coach. Father-figure, teachers, and everything else … I owe a great deal to him.
Harsh.
Thomas is basically blaming Knight for his own failures. It makes sense, though. Both are uptight and ready to explode at any minute. Thomas has just found a more administrative way to administer punishment. Instead of hitting those who chant, “Fire Isiah,” over the head with a chair, he has them kicked out of the arena by security forces.
