Americans Scared of Lead Paint in Chinese Olympic Food
U.S.A. to bring it’s own food to be safe, also to piss off Chinese

China, under fire recently for using lead paint in toys that have been imported to the United States, is now in the spotlight for food safety issues. The United States Olympic team is going to bring their own food overseas because they are scared of contaminated food that may sicken athletes or induce positive drug tests. Other countries are considering the same thing, and China is mildly annoyed:
“I feel it’s a pity that they [Americans] decided to take their own food,” Kang Yi, the head of the Food Division for the Beijing organizing committee, said Thursday. She added the U.S. had not officially notified her department of the plan.
Especially in regards to seafood, Chinese-produced food is, uh, not too appetizing. One seaport in China had 40 shipments to the U.S. denied by the FDA. (China Food Problems) China has been polluting their waters to depletion, forcing farmers to mix illegal veterinary drugs and pesticides into fish feed to neutralize the effects of the toxic water. Mmm… Mmm…
“Our waters here are filthy,” said Ye Chao, an eel and shrimp farmer who has 20 giant ponds in western Fuqing. “There are simply too many aquaculture farms in this area. They’re all discharging water here, fouling up other farms.”
“There are heavy metals, mercury and flame retardants in fish samples we’ve tested,” said Ming Hung Wong, a professor of biology at Hong Kong Baptist University. “We’ve got to stop the pollutants entering the food system.”
According to the New York Times, over half the rivers in China are too polluted to serve as a source of drinking water.
Along with seafood contamination, other types of food have also been compromised. Earlier February, 175 Japanese were sickened by insecticide-tainted dumplings from China. Meat recalls were issued for 58 other meat products.
Moral of the story: If the air doesn’t make you hack in Beijing, the food will get you.

Making me sick just reading about it.
I’m so glad to read the U.S. is bringing their own food.
wake up america, the chinese are intentionally poisoning us, this is not an accident. stop buying chinese products. notice how many oncologist are asians. they know where the business will be.
im a chinese american and personally i think it would be better if the u.s did more things to expose china’s hidden side. There is a reason for everything. China doesn’t keep their promises. Did they promise for a clearer sky? Where is it? Didn’t they promise to straighten out the human rights issue when they were promised the Olympics to be held in their city? People who eat their food are suffering. People who use their products are hurting. Falun Gong practitioners and Tibetans are ignored. China doesn’t deserve the olympics in their city. It should’ve been held in a country that actually keeps promises.
[…] waters, fish have to be farmed in toxic waters filled with powerful pesticides. The FDA last year denied 40 shipments of fish from China at just one port because of health risks. -6 workers died working on stadiums for the Olympics. […]
