WHAAAT?!!
ESPN’s “Greatest Highlight.” Decide for yourself if it’s great.
MITCHELL BLATT
SportsCenter, THE source for all sports news, has a new segment that, once again, has nothing to do with sports news. Here’s an example brought to you by Chris “WHAAAT?!!@#$%” Berman:
If you could first get through his comparison of the Stanford band to the Grateful Dead, you would be unfortunate enough to see him commentate the greatest kick return ever. Apparently, a lateral makes the sound “WHAAAT!” or “WHUUP!” or something.
This all part of ESPN’s latest waste of time, “The Greatest Highlight,” the best thing since “Who’s Now.”
It’s like the March Madness of sports highlights. A bunch of losers vote on ESPN.com for what highlight should win each round. Should it be a hockey goal or a Lynn Swan catch, for example?
While that concept is moronic itself, the idea of letting Chris Berman commentate is like, “WHAAT?!!”
I mean we know Berman can’t actually use words to describe what is happening, but they could have gotten a baby to do that. “WHAT?” “Goo Goo Ga Ga.” “Bubba.” I’m sure this baby could have made the same noises that Berman made during the “highlight:”
They could have had Madden do it as well. At least he would say, “BOOM!” Maybe he’d throw in some nods to his corporate sponsors: “That band player is gonna need some Tinactin!” Something about Brett Favre: “You know, the only thing making it better would be if Brett Favre did the return.” Madden can at least speak in complete sentences.

I just don’t like anything to do with Chris Berman.
