Mike Freeman, a black writer for CBS Sportsline, opened one of his recent columns by saying, “When Dick Vitale basically declared during this weekend’s Duke-North Carolina broadcast that Tyler Hansbrough displayed the most desire of any player he has seen in all the years he has been covering college basketball, for a moment — a fleeting one — I thought I was smoking crack again.”

Read that again: “I thought was smoking crack again.”

Smoking crack?

Do you think a white writer would call himself a crack smoker?

It is clear that the only reason Freeman wondered whether he was smoking crack is because he is BLACK. Freeman is saying that all black people smoke crack. Simply not true.

Alright, let me get to the real point of today’s column: Freeman wrote a stupid article saying that Hansbrough is overrated because he’s white. Calling him racist for saying he smokes crack is just as much of a joke as calling the media racist for overrating Hansbrough.

Freeman is right that it gets annoying when Hansbrough is always credited with being focused. It’s also annoying when Donovan McNabb is mentioned as a great citizen and Randy Moss as the smartest player in the NFL. It’s annoying when any one is credited with intangibles.

But, I mean (well, Mike Freeman, means), don’t black ball players ever have focus? Mike Freeman asks, “Were Kevin Durant and Greg Oden coasters?”

Right, and they were the most hyped players of last year.

Now, lets ask, who are the best (black) players this year who should be getting more credit?

Eric Gordon (21.5 points per game), OJ Mayo (20.9), Michael Beasley (27.8).

Hansbrough (23.1) scores more points two of the three.

This makes me wonder is Hansbrough given so much hype because he is white? Or maybe is it because he ranks #11 in the nation for scoring and is the star of the #1 team in the nation? Kinda makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

And Freeman, you wonder in your column when the last time the “face of college basketball” was black? Well, I’m sure it happens more often in the NBA than in college, but let me assure you, there are plenty of good black basketball players in college.

And seriously, how the hell did this guy get a job at CBS Sportsline? Don’t tell me CBS Sportsline is racist. Here are some actual lines from his article:

I could go to a website about Chuck Norris and get funnier Chuck Norris jokes than that. If Brett Favre has a Hansbrough poster on his wall, then Jay Mariotti has a Mike Freeman poster on his wall.
