ESPN TrueHoop Blog is Inappropriate for Kids!

Mark Cuban might want to censor bloggers, but SonicWall has already got that done.

MITCHELL BLATT

I’m looking for something to write about today, and I see a link to Henry Abbott’s (from his blog TrueHoop*) take on Mark Cuban banning a blogger from his locker room.
*-DISCLAIMER: Don’t read TrueHoop unless you are over 18 and ready for inappropriate content.

So, I follow the link to a page that notifies me I have been blocked by SonicWall for viewing inappropriate content:

This website has been categorized as inappropriate.
It has been blocked in accordance with CIPA guidelines
For further info about CIPA guidelines visit:

I don’t mention this much, but I’m 18, a senior in high school, and I do all my blogging during my free periods, so my school has blocked Mr. Abbott’s site. For what? Too much talk of balls?

SonicWall, the program my school uses, doesn’t however block me from Kissing Suzy Kolber, perhaps the most “inappropriate” sports blog on the web or With Leather.

Rantsites like Maddox, which has the Mothers Against Maddox against it, are not blocked. Neither is Rantlister, whose tagline is “Mopping the world’s hatred into one bucket.”

For that matter, the Westminister Baptist Church website isn’t even blocked. Those are just the guys parading around at the funerals of American soldiers carrying signs saying, “God hates fags,” and “God hates America.” Not hateful enough to get banned?

So, what does this post have to do with sports? Well, it would have something to do with sports if the idiots at SonicWall weren’t idiots and didn’t block any site with sports info on it.

SonicWall is like China, the way they censor stuff. I bet they censor my site from now on now that I attacked them.*
*-NOTE: I don’t really bet that.

Here’s one guy complaining how his site got blocked when he posted pictured of zits and hangnails.

But, we can read the manifesto of a church that thinks 9/11 was God’s vengence for us letting gays marry.

UPDATE: I am inappropriate as well, but not on SonicWall’s filter. TrueHoop mentioned my post then someone commented:

Ironically, I can’t follow that link as it is blocked by my employers.

Now that I’m at home, I can actually immerse myself in Henry Abbott’s obscenity and read comments like that.

  1. I just checked the content management section of the SonicWALL website and looked up the rating for TrueHoop. It’s rated simply as News and Media. Any chance your school decided to block it?

  2. I’ll bet it’s because the name of that Memphis Grizzlies player, Rudy ***, keeps setting off the censors.

  3. Quite frankly, I’m amazed that you actually found the content management section of SonicWall, Mr. Goodwin. I was looking for it for about 20 minutes and couldn’t find it. Their site is so hard to navigate.

I don’t think there’s any way my school would have specifically decided to block it. Almost every other blog I read, I’ve been able to view, and there’s nothing about TrueHoop that would set off an alarm to school admins.

  4. Sorry about the headache… kindly refer to the following for more information: http://blog.illurity.com/?p=27

  5. I guess it’s the FCC that determined Abbott’s site was offensive.
