C.C. Sabathia WILL Get Traded — Confirmed
Top Contenders are Dodgers, Rays, Brewers
MITCHELL BLATT
C.C. Sabathia will not finish this season in Cleveland. I have confirmed that after speaking to a source close to Sabathia.
Here are the teams he may end up playing for: the Dodgers, Rays, Brewers, Red Sox, Yankees, A’s.
The Dodgers, 3.5 games back in the NL West, would have to deal outfielder Matt Kemp or pitcher Chad Billingsley.

Matt Kemp
7 HR, 43 RBI,
.290

Billingsley
6-7, 95 K, 3.64
The A’s, second in the West, are also a possibility, but not very likely, because, as my source said, “Billy Beane wouldn’t want to trade that much just to rent a player for two months.”
The Brewers, now 6.5 games back and third in the NL Central, might make the deal if they are still in contention closer to the trade deadline on July 31. They would have to trade third basemen Mat Gamel or top outfield prospect Matt LaPorta.
The Yankees are also interested in Sabathia, but the Indians want Joba Chamberlain or Robinson Cano, so the Yankees won’t trade.
Also mentioned were the Rays and Red Sox, battling, with the Sox up by 1.5 games, for the AL East title. Sox pitcher Justin Materson was mentioned as part of the possible trade.

If the Sox wouldn’t trade Jon Lester for Johan Cytana, I doubt they would deal Masterson for Captian Cheeseburger. Unless they are really concerned about Dice-K’s health.
As Tony Reali would say!
—Wow, INSIDE INFORMATION!
Good stuff Mitch.
This is blog ‘journalism’ at it’s worst. First of all, there’s nothing “confirmed” about this. Your “source” may as well be CC’s cousin’s mailman’s ex-girlfriend’s hairdresser - and regardless of whether CC decides to resign or go free agent, he doesn’t make the decision as to whether he stays in Cleveland the rest of the season. They might trade him, or they might decide to go for it with him and collect the draft picks.
As for the Dodger rumors, we need to knock that talk off. First of all, the Dodgers don’t need a pitcher - they need a bat, so trading Matt Kemp is ridiculous. Plus, Chad Billingsley is BETTER this year than CC is, and he’s 4 years younger, and won’t require a huge contract for several years.
First off… don’t listen to Mike whatsoever. Blogs are always opinions, speculations, and subjective material. That’s what makes them unique and interesting. NOBODY goes to a blog to read the news.
However, I don’t see any of these trades as very likely, and if the Indians “settle” to trade CC for a mediocre talent, I will be ripshit. Just prayin for the best.
I know my source knows what he’s talking about, but that’s between me and him. If I wanted to be “journalism at it’s worst,” I would betray his trust and mention who he is, but there is a reason he opted to be anonymous.
I’ll believe it when I see it happen. And when it’s narrowed down to less than five teams.
No mention of CC heading to Chicago? Hmm there has been a lot of talk on the internet boards, blogs, and even in some newspapers and insider chats that have mentioned the Cubs and Sabathia.
I’ll keep following this story and provide updates as I hear them.
The main problem is that I included pictures of Dodgers players and no one else, so now some people think that I was implicating the Dodgers as the only possibility.
There is no way the Dodgers grab CC for Kemp or Billingsley. The ceiling for Billinsgley is higher than CC’s and Kemp will be a monster at the plate in a couple of years. Now, if the Indians were willing to take Andre Ethier then I could see that happening. Since there is no guarantee of signing the big man to a contract after this year I would suspect the Indians would have to throw in something too. Maybe a A or AA prospect or some cash to defer some of the remaining cost of CC’s contract this year.
The comment boards are burning up!
[…] you can forget this one. According to Juiced Sports, the Indians want Joba or Cano in the deal, but prefer Joba. So obviously this trade will not […]
I agree with Sciosa. Tell me some other “confirmed” stories you broke, than I might buy it.
This is schlock. Blogs are for opinion, but “reporting” that one of the biggest potential stories of the year as fact gives the old media all the ammunition it needs to cast all bloggers in a bad light.
If this indeed has some truth to it, I too am surprised that the Cubs are not in the running for his services. A potential darkhorse: how about the Phillies, who have quality young players and are in a struggle with the Marlins in the NL East. It’s early, but I’d keep an eye on Philadelphia. And don’t discount the Angels. they have a lot of young talent too and a great shot to win it all.
I reported last summer that Cadillac Williams had herniated disks since college then Will Carroll of ESPN emailed me to confirm: http://juicedsportsblog.com/2007/08/cadillac-williams-herniated-disks.html
It’s not been reported on a large scale, but it has a credible name behind it.
Not sure what people commenting here are talking about:
1. Blogs do break news
2. Take the time to read Mitchel’s stuff. He has never come out and done this before besides the Cadillac story so why would he lie and completely discredit is blog.
3. People in the media use sources all the time and are completely wrong. What is the difference between Mitchell reporting and some sports writer?
Good work Mitchell. If you could break the actual trade, that would be amazing.

Well Mitch, you nailed this story. Too bad you’re not getting your props for getting the story before most did. You even had LaPorta as one of the players that the Indians would want. Nice reporting sir. My cap is off to you.
