Pencil in a Gold for Canada in Fashion…

Disturbing or Canadian? You make the call.
MITCH BLATT
The picture you are looking at is in fact a picture of the Canadian Olympic team showcasing their eco-friendly bamboo and organic cotton-based uniforms.
Now they make not look very tough going into the competition of the world’s greatest this summer:

But, they can also show they mean business in these things…
Co-designer Tu Ly said about the green design, using bamboo and organic cotton: “It was a real movement in every part of our lives, so it was hard not to be conscious of it.”
Especially when you’re competing in the most-polluted city on the planet, Beijing.
With that in mind, the uniforms include a B-Tube head cover that can filter out particulate matter in the air.
Also included in the uniforms were a lot of Asian influences, including the number 8 thread in through some of the designs. Lead designer Suzanne Timmins remarked, “Eight is a lucky number for the Chinese people, and a lot of people don’t know that on the eighth day, of the eighth month, in the year 2008, on the eighth hour, in the eighth minute, maybe on the eighth second, the Games begin.”
Some people also don’t know that on the eight day of the eight month in the year 1988, Burmese citizens began a series of protests for democracy that ended with thousands being slaughtered by the military dictators who were aided by Chinese weapons and support.
Pretty lucky, indeed.
Rachelle De Jong, a member of the rowing team, said “I think it will look really sharp when we’re all in a group together and I think it will really make a statement.”
Yeah, it will make a statement. Just what kind of statement, I’m not sure.

Wow, just…wow.
If the Rays believe their new unis have helped them win more games this season, I can only believe that due to these atrociously hideous togs, Canada will not garner one stinking medal in these Olympics.
O Canada! Seriously Canada, are you trying to blow up our beloved internet as we know it with these abominations? Their head is in the right place (I suppose) but these don’t look Canadian, nor do they make a statement if you ask me? Why? Good question. How about this: if someone didn’t tell me they were “eco-friendly” I’d think a very famous designer lost one hell of a bet, and these hideous things were born. yeesh!
I appreciate the sentiment behind the uniforms… but… those patterns?!?! It is fitting that the Olympics jumped on the eco-friendly track, since the Olympics have played such a significant role in modern world politics and consciousness.
I just wanted to say that the HBC company recently became owned by a US company so.. don’t blame Canada. Blame America.
If only roots had done the Canadian uniforms, we’d be hot.
I just saw the closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics. I had not seen the Canadian uniforms before. Oh My God! Those are the most hideous things I have ever seen. What an embarrassment.
