InGameNow Blog Wants to Become the White Jesse Jackson
We have a black man running for president who said earlier this year that America needs to have a conversation on race.
Well, we know that’s never going to happen…
Imus is accused of racism, The New York Times accuses Milton Bradley’s critics of racism, Nas accuses FOX News of racism, Jesse Jackson accused Barack Obama of racism, whites accuse Jackson of racism, Jackson accused Obama of being a “half breed n****r”…
When’s it going to end?
Just today, InGameNow blog accused the media of being racist toward whites because they haven’t criticized Ken Griffey, Jr. enough for doing a throat slashing gesture.
People, the problem in America is not racism; it’s race-baiting!
InGameNow seems to understand that well-enough. He said, “Lately, the media has come to the defense of black players way too much. Lately much has been made about how there are not enough black players in the game.”
However, he made the fatal error of countering idiocy with more idiocy, or, in this case, race-baiting with race-baiting.
Reds announcer Jeff Brantley said that Griffey was mad that he didn’t make his option and Griffey was offended because he said he doesn’t play for the money, so he made a throat-slashing gesture directed at Brantley as he crossed home plate on July 26.
While a throat-slashing gesture seems innocent enough–no one is harmed, it’s a simple display of displeasure–there are those who equate it with actually slashing someone’s throat.
Yahoo’s Big League Stew said Griffey shouldn’t be excused for “making an on-field motion even more distasteful than Brantley’s mullet.”
InGameNow wants Griffey criticized even more… if for no other reason than blacks don’t get criticized enough for throat-slashing gestures.
Except for DeShawn Stevenson, fined $25,000 for the gesture during a playoff game this year.
Except for Warren Sapp and Keyshaun Johnson.
Except for Rashad McCants.
Okay, so his argument is basically busted.
InGameNow says
If a white player made that gesture at a black announcer, he would face a multigame suspension, and probably loose every endorsement deal he has.
It depends, if the white player already had a bad reputation, he’d certainly be criticized harshly. Same as if a black player did like some of the examples mentioned. Hell, if Milton Bradley did it, he’d be demonated. (And the New York Times would probably think his criticism was racist.)
It’s just that Ken Griffey, Jr. has one of the cleanest reputations in baseball and is one of the most loved players.
When the media comes down on a player, it is because of their reputation, not their race.
InGameNow, I hope you enjoy your position as America’s first “white leader,” in the humble traditions of Jesse Jackson.
