Jose Canseco feels guilty. What?

This story practically writes itself.  We’ll get to it later when we have the time, but for now, just read this gem from ESPN.com wire services.  This may be the most pathetic, meaningless apology (I think it’s an apology) I’ve ever seen:

“Jose Canseco, whose book about steroids in baseball, “Juiced,” focused attention on the use of performance-enhancing drugs and led to congressional hearings on the subject, now says that he should have never written the book and named names of alleged steroid users.

During the A&E Network program “Jose Canseco: The Last Shot,” Canseco said he “regrets mentioning players [as steroid users]. I never realized this was going to blow up and hurt so many people.”

During the program, Canseco said he “wanted revenge” on baseball because he believed he had been forced out of the game. The book was his means of getting even, and he named names “to show I was telling the truth” about steroids in baseball, he said.

Among the names Canseco named in “Juiced” as alleged steroid users were Mark McGwire, Rafael Palmeiro and Sammy Sosa. All three addressed the congressional hearing on steroids, with McGwire’s testimony damaging his chances of being voted into Cooperstown and Palmeiro’s unequivocal denial of steroid use haunting him when he later tested positive and was suspended.” -ESPN

Have at it.  And don’t worry, we’ll have more on this later.

  1. Jose Canseco, a snitch, yes. A liar, no. We all know by now that Jose wasn’t lying about how steroids flooded MLB. Before Jose came out and name dropped, fans had an idea but we had no idea steroids were as widespread as they were. I believe Jose is very remorseful for what he has caused to many peoples lives. His life is in shambles, he is broke, black balled from baseball and his body has taken it’s toll due to 20+ years of steroid use. Ultimately steroids built his career and steroids destroyed his career. Hopefully for his daughter’s sake he is able to get a grip on his life and fight through these hard times.

  2. You would certainly hope so, but I think taking everyone down with him in this steroid scandal was an epic mistake for him. People HATE him for what he did, and baseball will never touch him again. It’s an ugly situation all around, but apologizing for it now (after he wrote 1, or was it 2 books?) is a joke.

  3. WTFF? Now this dirty piece of crap who opened the floodgates to these jackasses doing witch hunts (especially ESPN)to have something to talk about- this punk feels guilty? He shouldn’t have come with this book in the first place!!! He knew what he was doing- he wanted to be in the spotlight… He pissed his career away, so he wanted to ruin others… McGwire, Sosa, Palmiero, Clemens and Bonds (who has been BLACKBALLED) would no doubt laugh at him in a way… I knew he was smarmy, but this takes the cake. This guy has no shame. He’s an embarrassment. I hope he doesn’t get the peace he wanted- he made his bed, let him lie in it… He didn’t want people to forget him, he got his wish- he’s now a mega-pariah (even more than Bonds- he’s on that Ty Cobb sleazeball level)- I don’t feel sorry for him at all- not one bit. The sorry piece of trash sold out for what he thought would return him to some kind of relevance. Now, he will be an unfortunate answer to steroid trivia questions. And let’s not forget the drive-by’s who pumped him up to make him seem like he had some dignity (anybody that screws Madonna clearly has no taste in women, or standards in life at all)- they are more culpable to me than this sorry waste of sperm Canseco… It’s truly sad… He was on his way to being THE greatest Cuban ballplayer ever- he 4got wat brought him to the majors- hard work and consistency! Then the jerk-off thinks the world revolves around him… Good 4u, Jose… Ya got watya wanted, ya scumbag- now let’s see ya live with it!

  4. he is completely pathetic!!!! what aloser he is… just a shameless, spineless sack-of-s*it!!!! Canseco is nothing. Hope he never really rests over this.

  5. There’s nothing wrong with what Jose did. He helped expose the culture of cheating in baseball. It’s too bad so many players and fans want him to feel guilty.

  6. Why are so many people pissed at Canseco? He admitted his crime and exposed lots of other criminals. Remember Linda Kasabian “snitched” on Charles Manson and his goons, and she was granted clemency. Why is everyone so protective of these other “athletes” that also were juiced up for 20 years? It’s like we as fans didn’t want this dirty little secret revealed. Why is that? Do you really consider Bonds as the Home run King? Single season home run king? Aaron and Maris. The rest of this is roided BS. Why did it take so long for people to notice Mac’s body? Food for thought?

  7. I was really confused, and this answered all my quesoints.
