Juiced Sports wins the Gunaxin Blog Bowl!
With Tulsa’s demolition derby of soon to be unranked Ball State in a Mobile, Alabama downpour, Juiced Sports clinches Gunaxin’s Blog Bowl pick ‘em contest to win the $100 prize
JSB WIRE REPORTS
Thanks Shaun King!
The former NFL quarterback, turned ESPN analyst told me this morning that Tulsa was a sure bet to beat Ball State, and he was so sure that I reversed my original selection of the Cardinals to the Golden Hurricane. And what a decision that was. Leading by just one game over all the sports bloggers that were eligible to win the $100 prize (Gunaxin participants were just playing for fun), JSB needed Tulsa to win to open up a two game lead on the eligible field with just one game to play to secure the title. And that’s exactly what happened.
Tulsa ran over one loss Ball State 45-13 on Tuesday night, keeping Nate Davis and Ball State’s potent offense in check, while steamrolling the Cardinals on the ground. And with it came the culmination of one crazy bowl tournament. Sure, Florida plays Oklahoma in the BCS Championship game Thursday, but this puppy is over.
It’s been a long strange trip. JSB started out just 4-4 and then caught fire nailing 11 picks in a row. We were in the top 200 of ESPN.com’s Bowl Pick ‘Em contest, before things starting crashing down to earth. With Vandy’s stunning win over BC in the Music City Bowl came the end of the streak and the start of a major swoon. First Georiga Tech was pummeled by LSU in the Chick Fil A Bowl. Then on New Year’s Day Nebraska came from behind to beat my pick, Clemson in the Gator Bowl. After USC pummeled their annual Big 10 appetizer in the Rose Bowl, we lost five in a row, including a stunning Cotton Bowl and Sugar Bowl.
But we hung in there, thought out our picks, and rebounded to win two in a row to finish the deal.
This was a lot of fun, and a great tournament. We’d like to thank all the participating blogs, and especially all of our friends over at Gunaxin for setting up this great Blog Bowl in addition to the Pick ‘Em contest.
So that’s it. This tournament managed to turn the irrelevent bowls into the deciding bowls, making me more interested in the lesser bowls than ever before. So thanks Gunaxin. And be sure to check out of all their other bowl content and general college football content.
Thanks everybody for a great bowl season, and we look forward to the BCS Championship game.
Regards,
Scott Jacobs
