Newsflash: enough of the freaking SEC
The SEC isn’t the only conference in college football
SCOTT JACOBS
Enough!
Please, take this SEC crap elsewhere. I can’t take it anymore. It’s one thing for the SEC to be heralded as a quality conference, a unit of 12 teams that perenially produces some great teams, and usually finds itself in the middle of everything when it comes to national titles. But this perceived notion, that the SEC is basicaly the only conference in college football worthy of attention, is beyond absurd. It’s nauseating.
You know what really grinds my gears about the whole thing? The SEC isn’t even that good.
Wait, what? Did I just say that out loud? Whoops.
But seriously, I said it. Take that society: the SEC is not that great.
I get it that the Florida Gators are coming into the 2009 season as college football’s premier team. They’re returning a bunch of starters, including (you may have heard) Tim Tebow (the world’s perfect human being apparently). They may very well repeat. With that schedule, they should. Have you looked at their non-conference schedule? It’s a bleeping joke. I don’t care that schedules are set in advance. The Gators have practically admitted that they set their schedule up to give them a shot at their first perfect season (hard to believe that a school with three national titles hasn’t pulled that off).
Charleston Southern?
Troy?
Florida International?
And o look, there’s Florida State who the Gators have played annually for as long as I can remember. I wonder if they would take FSU off their schedule if Delaware came a calling.
The point is this: UF’s seemingly gotten to the point (as has much of the SEC it seems) that their conference is looked at so highly that it doesn’t have to play any one out of conference (Or in conference for that matter considering Alabama isn’t even on the schedule this year).
What about Alabama? They’re not playing Florida this year, but they did schedule such powerhouses such as North Texas, Florida International, and Charleston Southern. We’ll give them credit for taking on Virginia Tech in the Chic Fila Game to open the season.
LSU might be my favorite though. They play atrocious Washington, Lousiana-Lafayette, Tulane and Lousiana Tech!
Florida State on the other hand?
Jackson State, BYU, USF, and Florida. BYU was a top 25 team last year, USF has been very competitive the last few years, and Florida is coming off a national title. In 2010 the Noles have Oklahoma to worry about.
So memo to the SEC: start playing some teams. I hope that the Gators lose one game this year and it costs them a national title bid, because well, they choose not to play anyone out of conference. Maybe then will they start scheduling some quality teams.
Then, and only then, can the SEC make the claim as the best conference in the country.
