JSB is back to defend it’s Gunaxin Blog Bowl title
With the bowl season on the horizon that can only mean one thing– Gunaxin’s world famous (well, blog famous) Blog Bowl is back.
SCOTT JACOBS
We’re backkkkkkkkkkk… to defend our 2008-2009 Gunaxin Blog Bowl title.
With the bowl season starting today with a pair of less than highly anticipated matchups (to put it nicely), the NCAA will once again try to convince us that a bunch of meaningless games are more entertaining and more interesting than a playoff system.
Meanwhile on Friday, Villanova knocked off Montana 23-21 to win their first FCS Championship. It’s always a gas that the last day of the FCS playoffs comes a day before the FBS kicks off it’s (yawn) bowl season. So the hell with fairness and effectiveness, when you can have 68 out of 120 teams go to a bowl. Yay mediocrity!
And to think, in 1916 there was just the Rose Bowl.
But, with the Gunaxin Blog Bowl, these games have meaning again. Juiced Sports clinched the title last year with Tulsa’s win over Ball State in the GMAC Bowl. In a rain soaked, half empty stadium the Golden Hurricane crushed the then ranked Cardinals. Few people were there to watch it, and even less probably cared on TV, but the game actually had meaning to us. Thus the beauty of the Blog Bowl.
So here we go. Off to another Blog Bowl adventure. Yes, there’s way too many games, and way too many mediocre teams filling those games, but hey, without a plethora of pointless bowl games, what would we have to talk about?
Don’t answer that. Seriously, it was a rhetorical question.
