Mike’s Mock Draft 2010
Juiced Sports draft guru Mike Kaye throws his chips in the middle and takes his shot at prediciting the 2010 NFL Draft
MIKE KAYE
The NFL Draft moves its show to primetime, and it’s now a three day event instead of two, but just like last year I’m back to throw my two cents on how this year’s edition of the NFL’s marquee Spring event will play out. Without further adu, here we go.
1. St. Louis- Sam Bradford- QB- Oklahoma-Pass on Matt Ryan shame on you, pass on Mark Sanchez…well f%$# you fanbase, now you’ve got to take a kid that doesn’t look like a football player and will most likely be a bust.
2. Detroit- Russell Okung- OT-Okla. St.- Safest pick in the draft. Smartest decision too, protect your greatest investment. Okung is the only OT in this draft that can play decently at LT in his rookie year.
3. Tampa Bay- Ndamukong Suh- DT-Nebraska-Best player in the draft goes to the team that needs so much defensive help that I’ve been talking about a huge trade here involving the Bucs in the draft for a few days. Can you say the number 3 for 3 number 2’s? Hello Pats!
4. Washington- Trent Williams- OT-Okla.-Donovan cures the QB need but Trent Williams won’t be enough to save Mc5 from getting sacked at least 4 times a game. I have seen bad O-Lines before (thanks Ray Rhodes) and let me tell you, the Skins O-line is more offensive to native americans then the teams name. Worst O-Line I have ever seen. That is why Don was traded there.
5. Kansas City- Bryan Bulaga- OT-Iowa- I wanted to go with Berry because they could use help in the backfield for Brandon Carr and Flowers but my buddy Ryan (wow I just said that, think about it) just convinced me to take Bulaga so I wouldn’t reach like they did last year with Tyson Jackson. Bulaga is a RT to me but I’ve read that Brandon Albert sucks at LT and the org is trying to move him to RT. So I guess there you go.
6. Seattle- Gerald McCoy- DT-Oklahoma’s McCoy drops for two reasons: 1) not a nose tackle and 2) lack of need. He better pray Detroit likes Suh over Okung. Seattle needs help on their D-Line, Pat Kerney is gone, not having Julian Peterson around as a LB didn’t help last year, and they just got rid of their best pass-rusher in Daryl Tapp. McCoy is also the best available. I wouldn’t be surprised if Carrol took Berry though.
7. Cleveland- Eric Berry- S-Tenn.-Tom Heckert craps his pants in the draft room. Being around one of the greatest safeties of all time (Brian Dawkins) and being around the aftermath of him leaving last year, I guarantee he appreciates safety more than ever. Berry is the 2nd best player in the draft. This pick was Haden before Sheldon Brown was imported.
8. Oakland- Bruce Campbell- OT-Maryland-Fast, Athletic, from Maryland, no its not Darrius Heyward- Bey…it’s his former and future teammate Bruce Campbell. It makes sense that the Living Dead owner would take a guy named Bruce Campbell. He is athletic like Shawn Andrews but he’s not crazy. This fits need, want, and draft style.
9. Buffalo- Anthony Davis- OT-Rutgers- Poor guy, as a former New Jersey resident I feel bad for anyone from Rutgers going to the Hell of the North. When I say the Bills have problems, I’m using what is called an understatement. This is because outside of Jarius Byrd, Lee Evans, and Aaron Schobel, the team has nothing but backups. I think some would say the Bills are in worse shape than the Rams. I’m calling a 1-2 win season this year. The O-line needs to be in place before they get a franchise QB or else is won’t matter if they have Trent Edwards or Steve Young under center.
10. Jacksonville- Rolando McClain- ILB-Alabama- Smart and physical, McClain will be coveted from 10-20. He was on the National Champions team and he brings leadership to an otherwise mediocre defense. I can see Clausen here but I think Del Rio passes.
11. Denver – Dan Williams- DT-Tenn.-Couldn’t hurt having a natural Nose Tackle on a 34 team. I think this a reach but from the team’s perspective its fine because they just pinched a 2nd out of Miami. I think Josh McDaniels is the Doc Brown of the NFL, he’s crazy but sometimes he strikes some lucky breaks.
12. Miami – Earl Thomas- S-Texas- Reach Alert! But when you now have a Top 3 WR and a Top 5 ILB, your needs are pretty few when you had parts before the acquisitions of the aforementioned. Let me just say “Bravo Tuna Bravo.” Fins fans can’t say s&%$ about their team after the ballsies offseason the team has had. Jets trade for Santonio, Miami trades for the Horse. Over 100 catches the last three seasons. Having Marshall allows the Fins to reach but they will probably trade down to acquire E-Tom.
13. San Francisco- Joe Haden- CB-Florida- He may be slow but he’s still a great cover guy. I’m extremely weary of defensive players from Florida but I think valuewise this pick works. Haden is smart and reminds me of Lito Sheppard when he was in prime. He can turn his hips fluidly and he has good size. San Fran needs someone to help out overpaid and aging corner Nate Clements and Safety Michael Lewis.
14. Seattle- Derrick Morgan- DE-Georgia Tech- Rush, Rush, Rush,…Rush, Rush, Rush, whether your a Seahawk or suicidal, thats how they should draft in the merry old land of OZ. Morgan is really impressive physically, although my buddy Ryan thinks he has Derrick Harvey written all over him, but since he’s not from UF I’m cool with this pick.
15. New York Giants- Brian Price- DT- UCLA- When you have a terrible D-line anchor, you have a pretty terrible MLB against the run. Price is extremely overrated but I think he works for the NYG. He comes from a good program and seems to be flying up mock drafts around the cyberworld. This pick is hard, but if McClain is here, he is the pick.
16. Tennessee- Jason Pierre-Paul- DE-South Florida- Athletic, one-year wonder, JPP is interesting. After losing KVB, the Titans need some rush help. Holler at your bust, but JPP I think can be a sack specialist.
17. San Francisco- Jimmy Clausen- QB-Notre Dame-Hey there Brady Quinn…I think San Fran takes him because its value and need. I don’t like D-lineman coming out of Notre Dame and I really don’t like their wideouts but everyone who knows me knows I hate Clausen significantly. The only guy I know as cocky as me is terribly overrated but I think he can start after a year behind bust Alex Smith. Wheres the Heisman’s Jimmy?
18. Pittsburgh- Dez Bryant- WR-Okla. St.- This should probably be Pouncey or Iupati but value is important for the Steelers. This pick won’t help the image but I think the kid can help significantly. Limas Sweed is a bust and Mike Wallace, while impressive in his first year is not a number 1. Sleeper: traded down with early 2nd round pick in order to take Colt McCoy.
19. Atlanta- Brandon Graham- DE-Michigan-Someone cloned Trent Cole and put him in a Wolverine jersey. I think Graham is the perfect thing for Mike Smith’s defense. He’s quick and explosive and young. We have a winner.
20. Houston- Ryan Matthews- HB-Fresno St.- Why not CJ Spiller? Personally I don’t think any HB in this draft is 1st round worthy but for some reason I just like Matthews better plus I don’t think Houston’s run game is built for speed so CJ don’t fit. I can almost guarantee Matthews is a better blocker then Spiller.
21. Cincinnati- Taylor Mays- S-USC- Roy Williams is getting old and is spotty in coverage. Coverage is not a word associated with Mays but I think the Bengals DC Mike Zimmer can really take Mays to a place where he can compete with wideouts one on one. The Bengals are great with big hitters, heres another.
22. New England- Sergio Kindle- OLB-Texas- I think Kindle can play all LB positions in NE 34 scheme so I think this is a smart pick. I don’t think he’s 1st round worthy but I never think the Pats take anyone that worthy, outside of maybe Brandon Merriweather. If I’m a Pats fan I’m excited about this draft.
23. Green Bay- Mike Iupati- OG-Idaho-Best Guard prospect in a while goes to a team in need of interior O-line man. They need a pass rusher but this is a good draft for D-Line plus they took Peria Jerry last year so to avoid redundancy they take value and semi-need.
24. Philadelphia- Kyle Wilson-CB-Boise State- Oh please merciful Jewish God please. Haden may be the more appealing CB but Kyle is by far the most complete. Honestly I’d take him over Sean Weatherspoon who I absolutely love. This draft reminds me of 2003 draft for the Eagles where they took Lito and Sheldon back to back. This pick could be Weatherspoon but I know Dick Jauron (new secondary coach, be jealous) loves Wilson.
25. Baltimore- Jermaine Gresham- TE-Okla.- Todd Heap is getting up there in age and lack of durability. Ozzie Newsome is a good evaluator of talent as is John Harbaugh so this pick really intrigues me. This could be Kareem Jackson or Pat Robinson but I think the offense is the main concern this offseason.
26. Arizona- Kareem Jackson- CB-Alabama- National Champion and awesomely generic football name. He is coming on in recent months. I like him a lot but would prefer Wilson but probably not Haden over him. Arizona had a crappy year for signees last year with it being capped off by Bryant McFadden. I think he can at least handle nickel duties this year.
27. Dallas- Maurice Pauncey- C-Florida- Need alot of O-line help and need to get Jerry Jones off the ‘cohol. I like Pouncey but I think he can slide significantly but I like this pick for Dallas for numerous reasons, he can be an interior lineman on a rushing team and he is smart and clean too name a few. Probably the only Florida player in this draft that I think is worth drafting outside of late rounder Riley Cooper.
28. San Diego- Jerry Hughes-OLB-TCU- Shawn Merriman is nuts. SD is losing him next year, almost guaranteed. Solution: Jerry Hughes. He’s quick and athletic and is jacked. I think they could take CJ Spiller but I like the running back friendly 2nd round for that.
29. New York Jets- Jared Odrick- DT/DE-Penn St.-Not alot of needs, take a pass rusher. I think Odrick is getting alot of attention as he can play anywhere on the D-Line but will likely be a DE in the 34 for the Jets.
30. Minnesota- Devin McCourty- CB-Rutgers- The Vikings need help in the secondary, holler at me one year wonder and NJ’s own Devin McCourty. I think this is a reach but Minny is tough to figure out plus I know Childress has a fetish for CB.
31. Indianapolis- Charles Brown- OT-USC- Watch the Superbowl and tell me you weren’t underwhelmed by the Colts O-line. To help out the best QB in history (possibly) why not protect him a tad. I also want to say that Jim Caldwell is the 2nd worst coach to go to a Superbowl (Lovie Smith is number one, I’m not racist, Lovie is just terrible).
32. New Orleans- Sean Weatherspoon ILB-Missouri- I think anything is an upgrade over new Cleveland Brown Scott Fujita but Weatherspoon is scary. Swagger and ability incarnate, this man will eat your children. I’d be thrilled to have him at 32 and we could be looking at a repeat this year.
33. St. Louis Rams: Rodger Saffold, T/G-Indiana- Protect Bradford, he’ll need time.
34. Detroit Lions: Everson Griffen, DE-USC- Him and KVB would be scary.
35. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Demaryius Thomas, WR-Georgia Tech- Buh Bye Antonio Bryant, hello years of mediocrity, Thomas is better than anything the Bucs have.
36. Kansas City Chiefs: Sean Lee ILB-Penn St.- Someone please help Derrick Johnson.
37. Philadelphia Eagles (From Was): Morgan Brunett-S-Georgia Tech- Luxury pick for a huge hole in the secondary.
38. Oakland Raiders: Thaddeus Gibson, DE/OLB-Ohio State-Oakland has soured their front seven, Gibson is help.
39. Cleveland Browns: CJ Spiller, HB-Clemson- Jerome Harrison is good but I think you need two backs in the AFC these days.
40. San Diego Chargers (from SEA): Javid Best HB-Cal.- Steal and good use of value, fuck first round HB.
41. Buffalo Bills: Tony Pike, QB-Cincinnati- Good leader, fits Chan Gailey’s run and gun style.
42. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (from CHI): Vlad Duccasse, G/T-UMass- Apparently Donald Penn at LT is not good for the pass.
43. Denver Broncos (via Miami Dolphins): Brandon Spikes-ILB-Florida- UF fans like him, I dont.
44. New England Patriots (from JAX): Tim Tebow, QB-Florida- They have 3 2nds, this is almost a gimme.
45. Denver Broncos: Arrelious Benn, WR-Illinois- Brandon Marshall gone, Benn comes into to hopefully help tie on McDaniel’s straightjacket on right.
46. New York Giants: Jonathan Dwyer, HB-Georgia Tech- I don’t trust a paid Brandon Jacobs.
47. New England Patriots (from TEN): Jon Jerry, G/T-Ole Miss- Help on the o-line is necessary.
48. Carolina Panthers: Geno Atkins, DT, Georgia- They lost their starter in the preseason and it showed right away especially against the Eagles in week one.
49. San Francisco 49ers: Jason Worilds, LB/DE-Va Tech- Fits Singletary’s nasty LB style.
50. Kansas City Chiefs (from ATL): Rob Gronkoski, TE-Arizona- Coming off injury, but KC uses Tony G trade pick to get his hopeful replacement.
51. Houston Texans: Patrick Robinson-CB- Florida State- They lose Dunta Robinson and add a distant cousin (not sure but they say Keyshawn and Chad Ochocinco are cousins).
52. Pittsburgh Steelers: Colt McCoy, QB-Texas- Steal and telling move.
53. Cincinnati Bengals: Aaron Hernandez, TE-Florida- Somewhere Mike Brown is saying “Fuck Chase Coffman.”
54. New England Patriots: Eric Norwood, LB-S. Carolina-New England is the Penn St. of the NFL, Linebackers Pro.
55. Green Bay Packers: Nate Allen, S-South Florida- “It’s not a meteor, it’s a cookie wand!” Magic that Nate Allen is available here.
56. Philadelphia Eagles: Daryl Washington, LB-TCU- Wishful thinking but I think he’ll fall here. Strong Side.
57. Baltimore Ravens: Amari Speivey, CB-Iowa- Samarie Rolle is done.
58. Arizona Cardinals: Terrence Cody, NT-Alabama- Steal over time. Can be the anchor of the D within a few years.
59. Dallas Cowboys: Kyle Calloway, T-Iowa- See former pick.
60. Seattle Seahawks (from SD): Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, CB-Indiana PA- Kelly Jennings is their secondary, and thats sad.
61. New York Jets: Major Wright, S-Florida- I hate Major Wright but a reach for a Kerry Rhodeless Jets squad.
62. Minnesota Vikings: Alex Carrington, DE-Ark. St.- They will lose Edwards next year, heres his replacement.
63. Indianapolis Colts: Jon Asamoah, G-Illinois- Same with Cowboys.
64. New Orleans Saints: Arthur Jones, DT-Syracuse- Cuse represent, plus they cut Hargrove.

Wow, this draft expert is pretty good. Certainly better than Todd McShay, lol. For Cleveland, he almost got their pick right when he said it would have been Haden if we didn’t get Brown, but we picked Haden anyway.
I’ve said that least 1757309 times. The problem this like that is they are just too compilcated for the average bird, if you know what I mean
