Double Coverage: Week three, the picks

Double Coverage: Week three, the picks

The expected elite are down. The expected downtrodden are rolling.  What gives for week 3?

MIKE KAYE

This season is kind of ridiculous. The Cowboys, 49ers and Vikings are all 0-2 and the Texans, Chiefs, and Bucs are 2-0. I think Week 3 is normally where the actual flow starts. Teams have had two weeks to readjust and get prime film of their adversaries so they will be better prepared. This week has some pretty cool match-ups and potential upsets. I am going to be at the Eagles/Jaguars game and will try to have a special version of Double Coverage next week with full game analysis. Lets get this done.

Season Record: 17-13 / Guest Pick Record: 1-1

49ers @ Chiefs- The Pick: Chiefs. Yeah, I’m definitely riding this wave. A running back duo that is only rivaled by Carolina’s and a young, hungry, 3-4 Defense…I’ll take that. I do love San Fran but they just seem to not know how to win. If they go 0-3, look for Mike Singletary to take off another piece of clothing for his post game speech.

Cowboys @ Texans- The Pick: Texans. In a dome, at home, I take the Texans. I like the Cowboys on the road better then at home but after the huge win the Texans have a lot of momentum. I know I keep bashing the Houston secondary but Bernard Pollard has that unit working for and with him. Love Kevin Walter getting 11 catches last week.

Titans @ NY Giants- The Pick: Giants. If the Giants don’t win this game, I can see Tom Coughlin leaving sooner rather then later. I dislike the Titans but they seem to always will themselves through games with the help of Chris Johnson. I think the Titans will eventually pay for being so dependent on CJ but this game comes down to who runs on who more and does it well. I pick NYG line holding up and Ahmad Bradshaw lighting up Sonic-style.

Steelers @ Bucs- The Pick: Bucs. I honestly can’t believe I’m picking them two weeks in a row let alone against the Steelers but Charlie Batch is starting and he’s essentially a coach at this point in his career. I really love the Bucs D-line but losing Tanard Jackson for the year will hurt them down the road but not against Batch. Steelers will miss the semi-play-making ability of Dennis Dixon.

Lions @ Vikings-The Pick: Vikings. I’m tempted to pick Detroit after the way they’ve looked the last week but think if the Vikings can’t win this one then Josh Childress is gone and Leslie Frazier will take over. Calvin Johnson will pick on the Vikes weak secondary so it could be a shoot out so watch out for silky smooth Jahvid Best.

Falcons @ Saints-The Pick: Falcons. I think I may just pick against N.O. till they lose. I think they easily could have lost to the 49ers and they snuck out a win, bravo. Luck don’t last that long, Matt Ryan is coming to town. I like Roddy White on the secondary of the Saints.

Browns @ Ravens-The Pick: Ravens. Read Green Bay vs. Buffalo last week.

Bill @ Patriots- The Pick: Pats. Did you see Buffalo versus GBP. It was a massacre and Ryan Fitzpatrick won’t change results against the Pats. I pick the Pats plus 24 at least.

Bengals @ Panthers-The Pick: Bengals. Rookie QB Jimmy Claussen’s first start versus Johnathan Joseph and Leon Hall equal awful results for Carolina. I trust Cincy’s defense to hold pretty well against the run but look for Steve Smith to still be targeted quite a bit.

Redskins @ Rams- The Pick: Rams. Ya, I’m picking the Rams. I don’t like Sam Bradford but I think you can run on the Rams. I like Steven Jackson and tight end Daniel Fells against the Haynesworth-less Skins. I think this will be low scoring and very grind-out like.

Eagles @ Jaguars- My buddy Joe will make the Eagle pick this week. He is a Giant fan so I’ll be interested what he says. I will actually be at this game on Sunday.
Joe’s Eagles @ Jag-The Pick: Eagles. I pick Eagles but MJD is going to get at least two touchdowns. I pick the Eagles because Vick will try to maintain his starting position and the defense will do better but still allow Jones-Drew to score.

Chargers @ Seahawks-The Pick: Seahawks. I get it, the Chargers had a good game last week but they are typically awful to start the season. The Seahawks open up large leads at home. I would not be surprised if the Seahawks start awesome out the gate and have the Chargers dragging on their coattails.

Raiders @ Cardinals-The Pick: Raiders. This is the Raiders third mediocre team in 3 weeks. I think the Cards will have problems against Darren McFadden who should have a huge fantasy day against the Cards linebackers.

Colts @ Broncos- The Pick: Colts. I think the Colts are getting in stride but wouldn’t be surprised with the upset. Look for the matchup of Robert Ayers versus the the OT’s of the Colts, that could dictate the game but look to see Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon take advantage of the double teams that Reggie Wayne receives.

NY Jets @ Dolphins- The Pick: Dolphins. Things seem to be working for Miami and I’m not sold on the Jets. I think the Jets will miss the Revis Island that they like to vacation on with their sub-par D-line.

Packers @ Bears-The Pick: Packers. Jay Cutler is do a bad game and this will be it. We all know my man-crush on Clay Matthews but with a weak O-line, Matthews could have quite the day. This will be a very good Monday night game with a shoot out on the way.
