JSB Year-in-Review: Most Popular Posts, News
Now is the time of year it is popular for YouTube or Google to do their greatest viral videos/search topics/etc of the year, so I’m gonna jump in with JSB’s most popular articles and blog posts of the year, because this is the day of the greatest sports story of the year: Brett Favres’ consecutive games streak ends at 297! My question is: Does this mean he will finally retire now that he has no reason to play, or will he play 20 more years to get to 300?
Anyway, we now present you with JSB year-in-review. This is based on Google Analytics traffic stats.
1.) Delonte West-Gloria James affair confirmed
Wow, who would have thought this would be popular? Yes, we have a source at an NBA scouting agency, and he does provide us with news off the record from time to time, including the fact that the Cavaliers might be making a lot of trades before the trade deadline.
2.) Mel Kiper explodes on Todd McShay
Kiper’s annoyance with ESPN’s young new NFL Draft analyst prodigy exploded on Draft Night when discussing quarterbacks, and there’s the video.
3.) A comparison of ESPN.com and SI.com
One website is a little bit less sensationalistic when presenting the same headlines…
4.) Infographic: Kobe Bryant vs. Michael Jordan
LeBron didn’t even qualify for the infographic.
5.) George Lopez jokes about Greg Oden’s dick
You’ve descended to a new level when George Lopez is taking you on taking on your dick. (After Oden posted it online, of course.)
Keep reading for the next 5 and some more interesting stats:
6.) How Big 10 conference expansion could destroy the Big 12 and Big East
Well, the Big East didn’t get hurt, but the Big 10 and Pac-10 combined to do big damage to the Big 12.
7.) There’s no I in Durant
Come on, even you have to admit he’s a good team player.
8.) Does leading your MLB division in the middle of June mean anything?
Depends.
9.) LeBron James’ new commercial: “What Should I Do?”
Apparently not that commercial! Not if the responses are any measure.
10.) Kim Yu Na is under attack on YouTube!
So pictures of a hot Korean ice skater will draw traffic?…
Interesting revelations:
-”puppet parody” was JSB’s #7 leading keyword. People searching for Greg Oden’s dick also found their way to JSB only to find George Lopez instead.
-People from 162 countries visited JSB, including 2 from Myanmar Burma, 5 from Saint Lucia, 2 from Gabon, 414 from China (where JSB used to be blocked), and 2 from Cote d’Ivoire.
-The Delonte West story generated interest worldwide. Canadians reading that story accounted for the #15 most people from a single country reading a story (all of the top 14 articles are Americans reading a specific article). Germans reading the article ranked #35, Lithuanians reading it at #52 and so on…
-In the rising Chinese economy, what do Chinese like most? The New York Yankees category page was their favorite, followed by the Delonte West story and this article about how North Korea imported Chinese to watch their team at the World Cup.
-Net Applications still has Internet Explorer at 58% market share, and Microsoft keeps saying they’re still over 50%, but JSB’s visitor stats trend a lot closer to Statcounter’s interpretation of the market. JSB visitors are said to be just 41% Internet Explorer, 28% Firefox, 16% Safari, 9% Chrome, 3% Netscape and about -3% fractions being rounded up.
