Juiced Sports Presents: Our 2011 Mock NFL Draft, Round 1, Part 2

Yesterday Juiced Sports brought you the first 16 picks in our projected mock draft for 2011. Today we bring you picks 17-32.

MIKE KAYE

Who does our resident pickatologist project to fall to your favorite team in next April’s draft?  Check out all of his projections from Draft.0 here:
Picks 1-16 / Picks 17-32 /  Round 2

17. Indianapolis (7-6) / Anthony Castonzo / Boston College / OT
When someone like Colts G.M. Bill Polian  flat out claims that taking a DE over a LT in the past draft was a mistake, it makes it significantly more obvious that Indianapolis will take an offensive lineman the next chance they get. Castonzo is a smart player and gifted athlete that some scouts and mock sites have ranked higher then Sherrod. This guy is a Peyton Manning guy.

18. Miami (7-6) / Gabe Carimi / Wisconsin / OT
Vernon Carey isn’t getting any younger or more talented. Carimi would provide them a right bookend to match Jake Long on the left. Chad Henne needs to improve, but to do so he needs time to make his reads or else he’s asking for picks. The Bears game proved that a Fins QB is susceptible to being dragged to the dirt and rushed out of their pants numerous times a game.

19. Tampa Bay (8-5) /Janoris Jenkins / Florida / CB
Raheem Morris is a former secondary coach and after huge sophomore season jump for the Bucs head man, he is in position to take a toy at his favorite position. Ronde Barber will retire after this season or the next so Aquib Talib needs a new running mate. As much as I don’t trust UF defensive players, Jenkins seems to be special. He reminds me less of Lito Sheppard and more of Sheldon Brown.

20. Green Bay (8-5) / Mike Pouncey / Florida / G
Aaron Rodgers’ sack totals have gone down but so have the rushing yardage for the Ryan Grant-less Packers. Pouncey can be a force in the running game if given the chance. He is not his brother but he is most likely the best guard in the class.

21. St. Louis (6-7) / Adrian Clayborn / Iowa / DE
Clayborn is a carbon copy of Aaron Kampman which means only good things for defensive-minded Steve Spagnuolo. The addition of Clayborn could be great for the Rams  ‘rush, rush, and rush some more’ mentality that Spags’ mentor, the late, great Jim Johnson preached. Clayborn and Chris Long could be hurting QBs for quite some time together.

22. Jacksonville (8-5) / Travis Lewis / Oklahoma / OLB
My friend Ryan is a huge Jags fan and is constantly telling me how much help they need at weakside linebacker. Lewis can play weak and therefore already has a better grasp at the position then current WILL Justin Durant. The stability at weak will make Daryl Smith’s and Kirk Morrison’s jobs much easier.

23. Kansas City (8-5) / Akeem Ayers / UCLA / OLB/DE
Ayers is a beast and can take the place of veteran Mike Vrabel. The Chiefs are on the rise and Romeo Crennel has the defense running like a fine oiled machine. The Bruin standout will be a nice compliment to Tamba Hali and good insurance should Hali leave after his contract runs out.

24. Chicago (9-4) / Johnathan Baldwin / Pittsburgh / WR
Chicago has a lot of number two receivers, but  they desperately lack a number one. Baldwin can be that guy.  Adding the Pitt wideout will give Jay Cutler the dependable target he used have back in Denver with Brandon Marshall. Baldwin is used to cold weather having played in the Big East and he has was coached up by former Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt (who also used to coach the Bears) so he should be ready for the big time in the rugged NFC North.

25. New York Giants (9-4) / Aaron Williams / Texas / CB
Aaron Ross has been injured a majority of the season and New York’s secondary has suffered because of it. They need depth at corner. Enter Williams, a highly rated cover man with exceptional skills. He’s not on the same level of Prince or Peterson, but he can play both nickel and cornerback.

26. New York Jets (9-4) / Von Miller / Texas A&M / OLB/DE
Miller is eating up his draft buzz and has proven that he can change a game because of his superior athleticism alone. Bart Scott needs someone new to coast off of so that he can claim he is a baller. In all seriousness, Miller can be the Terrell Suggs that Rex Ryan wishes he still had.

27. Baltimore (9-4) / Cameron Jordan / Cal / DE/DT
The Ravens may be best known for their defense but that unit hasn’t proven to be as dominant this year as it has in years past. Baltimore has a group of mediocre names at the 5 technique and Jordan is a guy that can bring some action to the D-line.

28. New Orleans (10-3) / Stephen Paea / Oregan State / DT
If you read my columns or my picks, you know that I am not huge on the Saints bandwagon and  part of that reason is their pass rush. The Saints could really use some help against the run as well so a defensive tackle would be a strong solution for the soon-to-be-former defending champs.

29. Philadelphia (9-4) / Stefen Wisniewski / Penn St. / C/G
Wisniewski is a local guy for the Eagles and would be a suitable pick for the Andy Reid regime. Reid tends to take guys on either side of the line early so taking Wisniewski here would be no surprise. Max Jean Gilles and Mike McGlynn have be respectable (for the most part) at guard and center respectively, but Wisniewski can compete at both positions and could probably upstage one or both of them upon arrival.

30. Pittsburgh (10-3) / Allen Bailey / Miami / DE/DT
The Steelers don’t have a lot of glaring weaknesses so Dick Lebeau gets a lovely new present a year removed from his Hall of Fame induction. The Steelers always seem to contend with or without a QB.

31. Atlanta (11-2) / Brandon Burton / Utah / CB
Even with the addition of Dunta Robinson, Atlanta’s secondary is by far their biggest weakness. The Falcons need a right corner to help Robinson and that defense harbor the burden. Burton is a very good player and looks like one of those guys who will be ready to start from day one.

32. New England (11-2) / Michael Floyd / Notre Dame / WR
Luxury pick for the Pats who will have the last pick in the first round if they win the Superbowl (if Carolina proves to be the worst team in the league New England will also have the first pick in the second round as well). Floyd is a prime talent who’s only real vice is lack of need from teams. Wes Welker, Julian Edelman, Brandon Tate, and Deion Branch are good but they aren’t on the level of Floyd.

  1. I love your mock draft prediction. Looks very realistic to me. I think the same thing will happen. Not perfectly but mostly. Thanks for sharing.
