Double Coverage: Our 2010 Preseason picks, revisited

It’s been nearly 5 months since we threw out 50 semi-bold picks for the 2010 NFL season.  How’d we do?  Read on

MIKE KAYE

What is up my Dumbites? Since the regular season is over, I figured I’d look at my preseason predictions and see which ones actually came to fruition. Over the next couple of weeks, Double Coverage will bring you a mountain of coverage to help those whose teams are not in the playoffs, get their fix as if they were.

I should note that my playoff picks went 3-0 last week (I didn’t pick the Eagles game) and I finished the regular season 132-92. (11-2 in week 17). So without further ado, these are the semi-bold predictions from August that I got right.

1) Brett Favre will throw more game-losing interceptions then game winning touchdowns (11 TDs, 19 INTs).

2) A team can make the playoff in the NFC with 8 wins (Apparently even 7 as the Seahawks finished 7-9).

5) The Tampa Bay Bucs’ Wide Reciever Mike Williams (of SU) will have the most immediate impact of any non-1st or 2nd round pick in this year’s draft. (10 TDS and over1000 yards receiving).

6) The Detroit Lions will win 6 games this year and Jim Schwartz will finish in the top 5 in coach of the year voting. (4 game winning streak to close it out and a 6-10 record, we shall see about Schwartz).

9) This is Randy Moss’ last season as a Patriot and that will be very apparent by mid-season (he was literally traded at mid-season to the Vikes, then cut, then ended up with the Titans as a decoy).

15) Chad Henne will not start every game this season for the Dolphins (Tyler Thigpen and Chad Pennington took snaps at the beginning of games this year, Chad Henne was benched).

16) The Bengals will cut Antonio Bryant and regret it by midseason (they did cut him and they had a losing record).

21) The New York Giants will promote Ahmad Bradshaw to starting Running Back over Brandon Jacobs and will help improve their running game significantly (yes and no: Bradshaw led the Giants in yards but also led them in fumbles as well ).

23) Dallas Cowboys will lose more games at home then they will on the road (7 losses at home, 4 on the road).

25) Denver will lose and lose a lot and Josh McDaniels will be shown the door (McD couldn’t even make it till the end of the season and the Broncos own a Top 3 pick in the draft).

28) Arizona will start at least 3 different QBs this year (Derek Anderson, Max Hall, John Skelton).

30) Tim Tebow will have more rushing yards than teammate Lendale White this season (Tebow=227 yds, White was injured before season).

31) At least one major player will be traded by the deadline (Randy Moss? Marshawn Lynch?).

33) Ryan Matthews will make or break the Chargers season (only played in 12 games, 7 of which they won, imagine if he played in all 16 games?).

34) Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles will gain more total yards then Shonn Greene and Ladanian Tomlinson (Jamal Charles 1,467 & Thomas Jones 896 vs. Shonn Greene’s 766 and LT’s 914).

35) The Raiders will win more games then at least one NFC division winner, but will still miss the playoffs (Raiders won 8 games and missed the playoffs while the Seahawks won 7 and got their division).

37) Ndamokong Suh will double Gerald McCoy’s sack total (Suh actually more than tripled McCoys total, Suh had 10 sacks and McCoy had 3 sacks).

38) Albert Haynesworth will not play more then 3/4 of the season (only half the season with 8 games).

39) Reggie Wayne will lead the league in receiving (111 catches).
