Summing up the Player, the Man, and the Brand: LeBron James

Would it really kill LeBron to just be honest?

First off I want to qualify what you are about to read from my perspective as a native-Ohioan, Cleveland sports junkie, and lover of anything anti-LeBron.  This article began in my mind when LeBron tweeted “Crazy.  Karma is a b****..Gets you every time.  Its not good to wish bad on anybody.  God sees everything!”  I think we can all presume he was reflecting on Cleveland’s 112-57 loss to the Lakers.  Then when asked about the tweet, LeBron says he didn’t say it, it was a retweet.  LeBron, man up, you’re angry, bitter, and at times of insecurity, regretful.  These are the only emotions you share with your former followers.  Own them and then maybe fans will respect LeBron James, the man.

During times of silent reflection, which I am sure James has very rarely, he has to see the mismanagement of himself.  After all LeBron James is a brand or at least is trying to be.  Forget Jordan, you have belittled yourself to accepting offensive bribes to play defense.  Even if you go on to win 7 or 17 Championships, history will always know you couldn’t shoulder the load.  I guess shoulder is the wrong piece of anatomy to use in your case.  It was the elbow, wasn’t it?

LeBron’s seven years with the Cavaliers will be summarized by blaming the organization for not surrounding him with the necessary talent.  Because in LeBron James world, it’s what can you do for me. What many forget is that Chicago acquired Scottie Pippen on draft day, not when he was an NBA All Star.  What many forget is Scottie Pippen was forged on the back of countless hours in the gym playing against the Best Player to Ever Play the Game.  Is Mo Williams, J.J. Hickson, or the rest of those not worthy of playing with LeBron any better because they played with LeBron?  Isn’t that the true test of a champion?

In summary, I have chosen to write a tweet to LeBron:

Dear LeBron, it’s OK to admit your faults, it actually makes you a stronger person and it will embrace you to the masses.  If you are mad at Cleveland, Dan Gilbert, yourself, Maverick Carter, World Wide Who Cares, ESPN, Jim Gray, The Boys and Girls Club (you did it for them, right) just say so, and stick to it.  Love, whats left of your fan base and consumers of the LeBron Brand.

One Response to “Summing up the Player, the Man, and the Brand: LeBron James”

  1. Basketball is a team sport, You are only as good as your team. The fact that LeBron James put his entire team down because they didn’t win shows his true side.
