NFL Free Agency ‘11: The Top Quarterbacks

NFL Free Agency ‘11: The Top Quarterbacks

When the NFL does eventually end it’s lockout, a bunch of key guys are going to find themselves switching teams.  Here in a new series from our NFL expert: The Best of Free Agency 2011. Today we start with the most scrutinized position in the game: QB

MIKE KAYE

The Best Of:  QB

The hearing to drop the NFL lockout is set for April 6th and that’s over three weeks away, but if you are an NFL fan, you can’t get enough of speculation. We here at Juiced Sports want to feed your football needs.

Here is our list of the top five players at quarterback and where that player is most likely to land, along with some other potential suitors.  The team in bold is where that player is predicted to go.  Note: I have not mentioned Franchise Tag players as most have agreed to stay with their team.

Quarterback

1. Matt Hasselbeck/ Seattle Seahawks
Possible Destinations: SEA, MIA, MIN, TEN

The Skinny: Hasselbeck has been an up-and-down Franchise QB for Seattle for years and led them to a Superbowl (worst refereed Championship game I have ever seen and I watch UM-Ohio State live) for a few years ago. Hasselbeck is similar to a guy like Chad Pennington in Miami a few years back, he is a veteran who can get you to a possible wild-card while you let his successor learn behind him on the bench.

2. Alex Smith/ San Francisco 49ers
Possible Destinations:
PHI,TEN, SF, ARI, SEA

The Skinny: I think Alex Smith’s problems as a starter are partially his draft status, partially his ability, and mostly his coaching staffs. This kid was good at Utah under Urban Meyer and I think he needs another college-rah-rah- guy so I think Pete Carroll can use him as a cheap stop-gap/Hasselbeck replacement.

3. Rex Grossman/ Washington Redskins
Possible Destinations:
WAS, MIN, TEN, MIA

The Skinny: I am really surprised by how Grossman played. That said, I think if he is smart, he stays with the Shanahans. Stick with what makes you a success.

4. Matt Moore/ Carolina Panthers
Possible Destinations: CAR, SF, DAL, OAK, JAX

The Skinny: Moore is coming off an injury so while I think he extremely un-tapped with his potential, I am not ready to say he’s a starter yet. He is kind of in the position Jason Campbell was in last year, he isn’t wanted by the new coaching staff and is a fringe starter, so I think he takes his talents somewhere else that needs a guy to be reliable as a backup or competition for the starting gig.

5. Troy Smith/ San Francisco 49ers
Possible Destinations: BUF, TEN, MIN, ARI, NE

The Skinny: Smith is a back-up for now and needs to go to a system where he can relearn how to be a leader. Bill Belichick loves projects and Smith is definitely a mid-career project in a career defining season.
