NFL Free Agency ‘11: The Top Offensive Linemen
The fifth in our continuing series, The Best of. Today we take a look at the top 5 Offensive Linemen
MIKE KAYE
The Best Of: QB / RB / WR / TE / OL
Quarterbacks get all the hype, running backs get all the fantasy points, and wide receivers and tight ends yap, yap, and yap some more. But none of that would be possible without the men in the trenches. Offensive Lineman are the backbone to a healthy offense. Quarterbacks that could have been great could have been killed because of a porous line. Quarterbacks that are great, need at least a solid set of help up front to stay up right so that they can get the ball out to their playmakers. Though offensive lineman are more like refs (the casual fan never hears much about them unless they make a horrid mistake), they are the glue to a good football team. Without a line, there’s no success. Period.
Offensive Lineman
1. Justin Blalock/ Atlanta Falcons/ OT
Possible Destinations: PHI, ATL, MIN, SD
Blalock is monster mauler at either tackle spot. I think he is the only Falcons O-lineman that I think will be back.
2. Robert Gallery/ Oakland Raiders/ OG
Possible Destination: ATL, PHI, SEA, NE
I think Gallery goes to Seattle because of Tom Cable’s relocation to the Seahawks as O-Line coach. The Raiders’ players loved Cable and his toughness and I think Gallery still drinks that Kool-Aid.
3. Harvey Dahl/ Atlanta Falcons/ OG
Possible Destinations: ATL, SD, SEA, MIN, NE, PHI
Dahl is a very good guard but I don’t think Atlanta over-pays for him the way the Birds would.
4. Davin Joseph/ Tampa Bay Bucs OG
Possible Destinations: SEA, TB, NO, MIN, NE
Joesph is the team’s best O-lineman, if they lose him that would be a ginormous loss.
5. Ryan Harris/ Denver Broncos/ OT
Possible Destinations: OAK, KC, ATL, DEN, TB
Harris is sturdy right tackle that I think is ideal for John Fox’s run-first defense.
