LSU on 1 year probation from NCAA after violations

The NCAA put Louisiana State University on 1 year probation due to recruiting violations the school made in recruiting lineman Akiem Hicks. An investigation had found that ex-assistant coach D.J. McCarthy was at the center of the violations, leading to his eventual resignation in December 2009. Part of the allegations included rule-breaking phone calls, that LSU said were made due to a misinterpretation of NCAA rules. The probation and other penalties will likely hurt LSU’s recruiting methods in coming years.
