If the Titans want another (diva) WR, Terrell Owens just might be the perfect match

There’s a big name wide receiver still on the market for anyone willing to put up with him. Will the Titans finally be the team that bites on T.O.?

Can Terrell Owens come back to the NFL this season after spending the past several months rehabbing and actually be an effective receiver? This is a question that is weighing on many receiver starved teams, most specifically the Tennessee Titans. The Titans have gotten off to an unexpected 3-2 start and look to be in great shape to compete for the AFC South title this season. With Peyton Manning out indefinitely for the Colts and Jacksonville wishing they had the Florida Gators roster instead of their own, Tennessee really only finds themselves competing with the Texans (who have had a solid defensive start to the season).

The Titans and Texans face off this week for the first time this year, and Tennessee will quickly discover if their receiving corps (minus Kenny Britt) are polished enough to win the  AFC South. Should Coach Mike Munchak decide that the Titans need to add to their depth chart, the prime focus has to shift to T.O.

Munchak will need to address two questions regarding Owens:

- Can he still produce enough to make his contract worth the while?
- Will the distraction he brings to a team be worth that production?

Owens had a mini career resurgence last season in Cincinnati and there is no reason to believe that he can’t play as a strong number 2 on somebody’s depth chart. At the end of last season Owens was still unafraid to go over the middle, yet he still had better hands them some of the leagues current top wideouts. Owens ability to secure the ball on short passing situations could be a key to success for the Titans should they bring him in.

He would fit perfectly with the short game throwing style of QB Matt Hasselback.

Where T.O. ends up playing in 2011 is still a mystery, but one thing for sure is that he wants to come back and he wants to win.  So who knows, maybe that means Tennessee gives an aging diva wideout a second chance two years in a row. Heck, maybe Owens can be this year what Moss wasn’t last…
