Take it to the Bank, Week 8 picks
MIKE KAYE
Last Week: 7-6 (54%) / Season: 65-35 (65%) / Scott Pick: 2-4 (0-0)
A week full of blowouts and last minute scores is mercifully over, but we still have weeks 8-17 to play with. Let’s Take it to the Bank.
Cardinals @ Ravens
Pick: Ravens. The poor Cardinals can’t catch a break on their calendar. The Ravens are coming in mad and know they need to use Ray Rice here. The Cards defense is what has been losing them games; that will continue Sunday.
Vikings @ Panthers
Pick: Panthers. I like what I saw from Christian Ponder last week and almost picked the Vikings here but I am going with my gut on this one with the Panthers. Cam Newton really is starting to look like the clear cut Rookie of the Year on the offensive side of the ball and I like him against the poor secondary of Minnesota.
Jaguars @ Texans
Pick: Texans. The Jags are coming off a Super Bowl-caliber win and the Texans just spanked another division opponent in a statement game against the Titans. These two feature top defenses so I expect a low scoring game. I pick the Texans at home because I think it’ll be a lot harder to cage Matt Schaub than Joe Flacco.
Dolphins @ NY Giants
Pick: NY Giants. The Giants could be walking into a Jaguar-like trap game this weekend. It’s kind of hard to take the Fins seriously, but that could be the Giants downfall. I like the Giants in this one, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they lose a nail-biter.
Saints @ Rams
Pick: Saints. The Saints have the easiest two week stretch of any team this season. This game won’t be quite as ugly as last Sunday night but it won’t be close.
Colts @ Titans
Pick: Titans. You saw Sunday night, right? The Titans are almost a lock to win this one.
Redskins @ Bills
Pick: Bills. The Redskins lost their tight end and running back and now look like a mash unit after remaining pretty healthy through the first quarter of the season. The Bills are off a bye and I think their high-powered offense will be tough for the Skins to match, especially without wide receiver Santana Moss.
Lions @ Broncos
Pick: Lions. I think the Lions need to right the ship here. The Broncos are coming off a huge emotional win (albeit against the Dolphins) and could be in for a major letdown. To beat the Broncos, they will spread the ball. The Lions cannot just rely on Calvin Johnson, as their two losses prove they need more.
Patriots @ Steelers
Pick: Patriots. This is possibly the best non-division game of the week. I like the Patriots on the road because I don’t think the Steelers have an answer for Wes Welker, Aaron Hernandez, and Rob Gronkowski (or as he’s now known as “The Pornstar King”). I think it’ll be close but the Steelers have to find a way to protect the inside of the field.
Bengals @ Seahawks
Pick: Bengals. The Seahawks should get a handicap of like 20 points every week after the horrible game they had last weekend. I look for the Bengals to use AJ Green against their banged up secondary and finish with Cedric Benson burying the Seattle defense with the runs.
Browns @ 49ers
Pick: 49ers. The Browns played in what may be the worst game of offensive football ever last week and the 49ers are coming off a bye fully knowing how bad Cleveland’s offense is. I like the 49ers for obvious reasons: better coaching and better players.
Cowboys @ Eagles
Pick: Scott Pick: Eagles. Finally a Sunday Night game worth watching (not mocking)! This is nothing more than a gut pick. The Eagles need to win to realistically keep their division title hopes alive, and Dallas arrives in Philly after flattening the Rams. Andy Reid’s teams don’t lose after their bye. That’s your over-emphasived stat of the week, and I’m rolling with it. Eagles by a nose-hair at the Linc.
Chargers @ Chiefs
Pick: Chiefs. The Chargers have lost a believer. I just think they don’t think they can finish games. The Chiefs are fast and riding a 3 game winning streak. I think this one comes down to who can establish themselves early and I think that will be Matt Cassel and Co.
