With Leather’s Watch This: It’s The Cotton Bowl On FOX, Right ESPN?

My favorite part of last night’s complete ass-kicking that the Oregon Ducks handed the Kansas State Wildcats was how ESPN’s announcing crew refused to even acknowledge the existence of the AT&T Cotton Bowl on Fox tonight. Of course they mentioned the BBVA Compass Bowl, but God forbid they toss Fox a bone and mention the bigger, better bowl with the bigger, better teams.Par for the course, I guess. Honestly, the ESPN stuff amuses me more than it bothers me now. Big changes in 2013, that’s what I attribute this new attitude to. Huzzah.Go Aggies.NCAA Football: AT&T Cotton Bowl – No. 12 Oklahoma vs. No. 10 Texas A&M – 8 PM ET on FOXI’m still kind of bitter that Texas A&M didn’t end up in the Capital One Bowl. I don’t remember who reported it – probably stupid local Orlando media – but at one point I was supposed to see Johnny Football and the Aggies in the Capital One bowl instead of stupid Georgia. I still probably wouldn’t have gone, but it would have been nice to have the option to see the Heisman Trophy winner that made the most people ever say, “Meh, whatever.”NCAA Basketball: Memphis Tigers at Tennessee Volunteers – 8 PM ET on ESPN2Is Memphis good anymore? I’m trying to get caught up on college basketball and I can’t remember if the Tigers suck now that John Calipari is two years gone.NCAA Hockey: Colorado College at Nebraska (Omaha) – 7:30 PM ET on NBC SportsIs it any wonder that NBC Sports’ top rated show of 2012 was a hunting show? I couldn’t tell you the Colorado College mascot if you held a knife to Kate Upton’s boob. Either one.NBA: Chicago Bulls at Miami Heat – 8 PM ET on ESPNGoing back to that original mention of ESPN’s slighty ways, I’m shocked the announcing crew didn’t shove this NBA game down our throats just to be sure that nobody would even think to watch Fox tonight.WWE Smackdown – 8 PM on SyFyI just read that Randy Orton is making his return tonight. All that charisma in one shot? I don’t think my heart can handle it.The post With Leather’s Watch This: It’s The Cotton Bowl On FOX, Right ESPN? appeared first on With Leather.

Faces Of ‘Freude: Poor, Poor Derek Dooley

My friends and I were joking this weekend, as I struggled through watching the UCF Knights blow their game against the Missouri Tigers and the Miami Dolphins really blow their game against the Arizona Cardinals, that I could just do these Faces of ‘Freude (new name, this one’s sticking) posts with pictures of me screaming at bar TVs for three hours every Saturday and Sunday. And yeah, once the Orlando Magic season starts, I may be able to power the entire planet with just my rage. But I’m not sure the world is ready for so many pictures of how handsome I am.Thankfully, we have Derek Dooley and his derpy dome to fill the void. On the surface, a 3-2 record shouldn’t have a team’s fans searching for the world’s tallest bridge, but Dooley’s Tennessee Volunteers dropped to 0-2 in the SEC after yesterday’s exciting 51-44 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs. I like Dooley and I don’t have any problems with the Vols, so I think it’s encouraging that they’re putting up such a good fight. Hopefully they’ll start winning more so fans can finish washing away the Lane Kiffin stink. But in the meantime, keep baking those frownies, college football fans.(Banner via, screen caps via my neighbor’s pool boy, ParadigmShift, of Twitter and Throw the Flag fame.)Trust me, guys. I feel your pain.(Via)Then there’s Captain Victory here, as Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes peed on the leg of every Michigan State fan by squeaking out a 17-16 win. UGH.Damn it, Mark Dantonio. You had one job to do. Hey, you look at me when I’m wagging my finger at you through the Internet.Much better.Meanwhile, congrats to this Ohio State fan on his millions of dollars.Seriously, this is my submission for the Sports Couple of the Year.No Dairy Queen for you guys after the game. The tiara on the right makes this picture so amazing.(Via)This is my favorite picture of the week because 1) this play was incredible, 2) that guy in the middle is having the most appropriate reaction to the one-handed touchdown catch, 3) Middle Tennessee State had at least three Play of the Year qualifiers in this game, because those guys were playing balls-out football, and 4) I got crap on Twitter because I said that the Georgia Tech uniforms, and they are.(Via)The post Faces Of ‘Freude: Poor, Poor Derek Dooley appeared first on With Leather.

Faces Of Misery: Tennessee Still Can’t Beat The Florida Gators

Saturday’s college football action presumably left very few people wanting more, because I can’t remember a day that was filled with so many exciting games and delightful upsets. For starters, I assume that everyone was on the edge of their seats for the incredible UCF win over FIU, because I was at that game, which immediately made it the most star-studded game in college football history. And I yelled things at Mario Cristobal, because he’s a moron who should have taken the Rutgers job and I guarantee you that he’s kicking himself every morning over his decision to turn that job down because he was allegedly insulted at the Scarlet Knights’ lowball offer. But I digress. My favorite game of the day was the Florida Gators 37-20 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers, which leads us to this new feature – “Faces of Misery”. Now, before the hate mail and mean comments start pouring in, please know that I have nothing against Tennessee. Well, that’s not entirely true. I do hold a grudge against the Volunteers because they gave Lane Kiffin money to be a head coach, even though he has never done anything to deserve it, unless you count being conceived by a great NFL defensive coordinator. I hate Kiffin a lot, so this is worth noting. In fact, if USC had lost at home, we’d be having a completely different kind of conversation right now.But I say this was my favorite game, because it provided us with a ton of great Faces of Misery, and as a fan of a perpetually underachieving college football team, I’ve made plenty of miserable faces myself. I also don’t like basking in a Gators victory, but it’s a jorts world and I’m just living in it. So enjoy the misery of Tennessee fans this week, and feel free to suggest upcoming games that you’d like to see us make fun of, because I plan on doing this as much as possible, because laughing at other people’s misfortunes is what makes America so great.(All screen caps provided by my good friend, Paradigm Shift, who runs Throw the Flag, and you should follow him on Twitter.)The post Faces Of Misery: Tennessee Still Can’t Beat The Florida Gators appeared first on With Leather.

Bane Kiffin: ‘Calm Down Pac-12! Now’s Not The Time For Fear, That Comes Later’

Good meme. Well done.I’ve long admired Lane Kiffin’s coaching career, from his days as an assistant at USC, to his head coaching gig with the Oakland Raiders, to his stint as the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers, and now his tenure as the coach of the USC Trojans. I don’t admire everything he’s done because he’s been great at it. No, I admire it because short of Cosmo Kramer, nobody has ever fallen ass backwards into fortune and success quite like this guy.But this is about today, and barring any idiocy in his lavish recruiting style, Kiffin will probably be at USC for a long time, because 18-year old kids like living and playing in Southern California. And we can make fun of Kiffin all we want for being arrogant or for saying he wouldn’t vote his team No. 1 when he clearly did, but it’s not going to change the fact that the guy is who he is.That’s why the Bane Kiffin meme is so perfect. The guy’s an unapologetic, brash menace that most likely won’t be stopped this season, and we love puns. So everything works out great. We hope that this new Tumblr parody continues throughout the season, and we celebrate it today with several of our favorites and a few of my own.
